'3 years at sea' with this flagship project

ABSTRACT - In 2004 more then 30 European organizations 'sailed off', with the objective to "create a fully integrated knowledge based system for the design, production and supply of personalized custom products or components using Rapid Manufacturing techniques".
Delcam accepted the challenge to not only coordinate and manage this extremely ambitious multi-client, multi-national and multi-disciplinary Europe-wide research and development project but also to be one of the leading partners with the role to develop advanced technologies to design customized parts based upon personalized 'imprints' of the customer.
This paper provides an overview of the current project results (after almost four years of work) with a more detailed overview of the project results in which Delcam was directly involved as project partner. The process steps to come to customized helmets, motor bike seats and knee implants will be shown and the current results will be discussed based upon user experiences.
Biography
Jan Willem obtained his MSc in Mechanical & Production Engineering in 1994 at the University of Technology in Eindhoven (Netherlands). Since 2006 Jan Willem works at DELCAM PLC as Manager European Research & Developments Project. Before joining DELCAM PLC, Jan Willem was Department Manager at TNO, the Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research. He started his career also at TNO as manufacturing engineer with a specialism in CAD/CAM and Rapid Prototyping.
Jan Willem has considerable experience in managing R&D projects both in his former job at TNO (Coordinator of 2 FP6 projects) as now at Delcam (Consortium Manager of Custom Fit and RECLAIM, partner in Manudirect). Jan Willem has written over 50 papers in the area of innovative design and manufacturing and he enjoys every day of his life.
