Influence of processing parameters on thermal profile and mechanical properties of Laser Additive Manufactured (ALMed) materials

Prof Xinhua Wu, IRC in Materials, The University of Birmingham
E-mail: X.Wu.1@bham.ac.uk

ABSTRACT - The thermal profiles, microstructure and mechanical properties in ALMed materials are strongly influenced by processing conditions. In this paper, the influence of laser power and scan speed on thermal profile and microstructure of Ti6Al4V manufactured using blown powder technology will be reported and the applications of blown powder technology and their pros and cons will be highlighted. Some results on the influence of processing parameters on the characteristic of laser powder bed (EoS270) processed Ni alloy will also be reported and the potential of this technology will be discussed.

Biography

Xinhua Wu is a professor in aerospace materials at the University of Birmingham. She leads a group of about 20 people working on alloy development and advanced powder processing including laser additive manufacturing and net shape HIPping. Their research in laser additive manufacturing is on understanding the influence of processing conditions on surface condition, microstructure and mechanical properties of the component.
